Lake Conine is a natural freshwater lake located in Polk County, Florida. It sits on the north side of Winter Haven, Florida. Even though the lake is almost completely surrounded by the city, it is not officially inside the city limits.

Many people also call this lake Lake Connie. In fact, some websites list it more often by the name Lake Connie. Lake Conine covers about 237-acre (960,000 m2) of water. It has a shape that looks a bit like a teardrop.

About Lake Conine

Lake Conine is surrounded by different types of land. On its north and southwest sides, you'll find homes and neighborhoods. The west and southeast parts of the lake are bordered by woods. To the east, the lake is next to SR 544, which is also known as Lucerne Park Road.

Keeping the Lake Healthy

For many years, Lake Conine received something called wastewater effluent. This is treated water that comes from homes and businesses. A study in 1994 found that this water caused a problem. It led to too many nutrients building up in the lake's bottom mud. These nutrients could make the lake unhealthy.

To fix this, Polk County paid for a special cleanup project. In 1996, a liquid called aluminum sulfate was added to the lake's surface. This helped to stop the nutrients from spreading from the lake bottom. The project successfully repaired the damage and made the lake healthier.

Visiting and Fishing at Lake Conine

Lake Conine does not have public swimming areas. It also does not have public boat ramps where you can easily launch a boat. However, boaters can still reach Lake Conine. They can use public boat ramps on other nearby lakes.

This lake is part of a special system called the Chain of Lakes. This system connects many lakes in the area through canals. You can reach Lake Conine by boat through canals from lakes like Lake Smart, Lake Rochelle, and Lake Hartridge.

Fishing is allowed at Lake Conine. You can fish from a boat or from the shore. There is a large public area along SR 544 that gives you access to the lake. Websites about fishing say that Lake Conine is home to fish like black drum, bigmouth buffalo, and atlantic salmon.
