Lake Ridge is a special kind of community in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that looks like a town but isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. Lake Ridge is very close to Woodbridge. In 2010, about 41,058 people lived there. This was a big jump, 35% more people than in 2000!

History of Lake Ridge
Lake Ridge began to be built in the late 1960s. A company called Sorensen Construction Corporation started building homes in the eastern part of the area.
By 1969, the first five neighborhoods were being developed. These were called Thousand Oaks, The Point, Plantation Harbor, The Village of Lake Ridge, and The Hamlet.
In 1972, the Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation organization was created. This group acts as the Homeowners Association (HOA) for the area. The community grew very quickly during the 1970s and 1980s. In 1983, there were about 3,350 homes. By 1990, this number had almost doubled to around 6,600 homes. The community as we know it today was mostly finished by the late 1990s, with the completion of the Ridgeleigh area. Today, Lake Ridge has about 7,700 homes. These homes are spread across more than 70 different neighborhoods and 9 apartment complexes. Most of the houses in Lake Ridge were built after 1972.

Lake Ridge is located at 38°41′17″N 77°18′32″W / 38.68806°N 77.30889°W. You can find it along Old Bridge Road, between Harbor Drive and Westridge Drive.
The community covers a total area of about 8.6 square miles (22.4 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 8.2 square miles (21.3 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.4 square miles (1.0 square kilometer), is water. This means that about 4.63% of Lake Ridge is covered by water.
