Settlements Lac-Walker

Lake Walker is a large and deep lake located in Quebec, Canada. It's found in the Côte-Nord region, about 30 kilometers northwest of the town of Port-Cartier. This amazing lake is known for being the deepest in Quebec!

Where is Lake Walker?

Lake Walker is located inside the Port-Cartier–Sept-Îles Wildlife Reserve. This reserve is a protected area for animals and nature. There have been plans to create a Lake Walker National Park around the lake since 2006. However, this park project has not yet started because it needs more money.

The lake is named after Hovenden Walker. The nearby unorganized territory of Lac-Walker also gets its name from this lake.

What Makes Lake Walker Special?

Lake Walker is very long and narrow. It stretches for about 33 kilometers (20 miles). But it's only about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) wide. The sides of the lake are very steep and rocky.

How Deep is Lake Walker?

In 2011, scientists measured Lake Walker's depth. They found it was an incredible 280 meters (919 feet) deep! This makes it the deepest lake in all of Quebec. It's even deeper than the Pingualuit crater lake, which is 252 meters deep.

Rivers Connected to Lake Walker

The main river that flows into Lake Walker is the Schmon River. It enters the lake at its northern end. Water from the southern tip of Lake Walker flows into the Aux Rochers River. This river then carries the water to the mighty Saint-Lawrence River, about 30 kilometers away.
