Lakeside Lake is a cool lake found in Chuck Ford-Lakeside Park in eastern Tucson, Arizona, United States. You can find it at the corner of Stella Road and Sarnoff Drive. It's a man-made lake, also known as a reservoir, and it's a popular spot for fishing and enjoying nature.

How Lakeside Lake Was Created

The Story of Hal Kinnison's Farm

The history of Lakeside Lake began a long time ago with a man named Hal Kinnison. He moved to Tucson in 1909. Mr. Kinnison bought land near the Pantano River (which is now called Pantano Wash). Over several years, he bought more land in the area.

To help water his crops, Mr. Kinnison built a special canal and a dam. This created a reservoir on his property, collecting water from the river. People often called this water body the Kinnison Reservoir, Kinnison Lake, or Kinnison Dam. It was an important part of his farm for many years.

From Farm to Ranch to Park

During a tough time called the Great Depression, Mr. Kinnison lost his land. After that, the land became a guest ranch called El Rancho Pantano. Later, a family named Atterbury bought the property.

Boudinot and Ruth Atterbury first bought part of the old Kinnison Lake land in 1947. Their daughter, Joan Atterbury, moved there a couple of years later. She lived on the property and raised race horses.

In 1960, the Atterbury family sold the land to a company called Lusk Corporation. This company then developed the area into the Lakeside neighborhoods we see today. The old Kinnison Lake became what we now call Lakeside Lake. Even today, a nearby stream called Kinnison Wash is named after Hal Kinnison, and Atterbury Wash is named after the Atterbury family.
