Laura Louise "Lakey" Peterson (born September 30, 1994) is an American professional surfer. She is known for her amazing skills on the waves. Lakey has been ranked as high as No. 1 by the World Surf League (WSL), which is the top professional surfing competition for women. In 2009, she made history by landing the first-ever aerial trick in a women's competition for the NSSA. She also won that competition!

Lakey Peterson's Early Life
When Lakey was five years old, in 2000, her parents and two older siblings went on a trip around the world for a year. It was during this adventure that Lakey first learned to surf. For three months, her family stayed in Manly Beach, Australia. The local surfers there gave her the nickname "Lakey Legend" because she was so good at catching waves on her boogie board.
After returning home to the United States, Lakey didn't surf for a few years. But when she was 12, she started again. By the time she was 16, she had already qualified for the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women's World Championship Tour. She began her first year on the tour in 2012.

Lakey Peterson has had a very successful career in professional surfing. She has competed in many major events around the world.
Top Rankings in World Tours
In the 2018 World Surf League Championship Tour, Lakey Peterson finished second overall. She was the highest-ranked American female surfer that year. The next year, in the 2019 World Surf League Championship Tour, she ranked third overall.
Olympic Dreams
Lakey Peterson competed to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in surfing. She finished third among American female surfers in the qualifying event. Only the top two surfers from each country could directly qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team. Because of her strong performance, she became an alternate for the team.
Major Wins and Achievements
Lakey Peterson has won several important surfing competitions throughout her career. She has won five events on the WSL Championship Tour. One of her big wins was the US Open of Surfing in 2012. She also won the Corona Open J-Bay in 2023. Other notable victories include the Freshwater Pro and the Margaret River Pro in 2019, and the Roxy Pro Gold Coast in 2018.

Lakey also shares parts of her life and travels with her fans. On February 14, 2010, she started her YouTube channel. She began uploading videos in May 2019, showing her life and experiences, including her travels to surfing competitions like one in Bali.
