Lambert's Cove facts for kids
Lambert's Cove is a special area on Martha's Vineyard, an island in Massachusetts. It's part of two towns, Tisbury and West Tisbury. This beautiful region stretches from Upper Lambert's Cove in West Tisbury down to Lower Lambert's Cove in Tisbury.
Lambert's Cove is famous for its amazing views of the "up island" area, which is very hilly. The main road, Lambert's Cove Road, is the only way to reach the north shore coastline of West Tisbury. It also leads to the town's only public beach. Some cool places you can find along Lambert's Cove include Lambert's Cove Beach, Makonikey beach, the old cranberry bog, and two ponds called Duarte's Pond and Seth's Pond. There's even a summer camp called the FOCUS Study Center nearby.
Did you know Lambert's Cove is even mentioned in a song? The famous folk artist James Taylor sang about it in his song "Terra Nova."

Exploring Lambert's Cove Road
Lambert's Cove Road is the main path through this area. It's split into two parts.
Lower Lambert's Cove Road
This part of the road starts in the town of Tisbury. Here, you can find the old cranberry bog. Cranberry bogs are wetlands where cranberries grow!
Upper Lambert's Cove Road
This section begins in the center of West Tisbury. It leads to important spots like Lambert's Cove Beach, Seth's Pond, and the FOCUS Study Center. Many homes, both for summer visitors and people who live there all year, can only be reached by this road.
Hills and Forests of Lambert's Cove
The Lambert's Cove area is on the western side of Martha's Vineyard. It's known for its unique hilly landscape.
The Hilly Terrain
These hills are part of a long range that goes all the way from Aquinnah to Upper Lambert's Cove. These hills are quite different from most of Martha's Vineyard, which is mostly flat.
The flat parts of the island were shaped by glaciers during the last Ice Age, about 10,000 years ago. These giant ice sheets scraped away the land. But the Lambert's Cove area, being on the eastern side, wasn't scraped as much. That's why it kept its beautiful hills!
Unique Forests
Lambert's Cove is also home to many large oak and beech trees. This is special because most of Martha's Vineyard has smaller scrub oaks and pine trees. The forests in Lambert's Cove are much thicker and greener, making them a wonderful place to explore.
