History of the Islero Car
The Lamborghini Islero was first shown to the public in 1968. This happened at the Geneva Auto Show, a big car event. Another Lamborghini car, the Lamborghini Espada, was also shown there.
The Islero got its name from a famous fighting bull. This bull, named Islero, was known for a specific event in 1947.
Who Designed the Islero?
The Islero was designed by a person named Mario Marazzi. He worked for a company called Carrozzeria Marazzi. This company was chosen to build the car's body.
Carrozzeria Marazzi was started by Carlo Marazzi. He used to work for another car body company called Carrozzeria Touring. Carrozzeria Touring had built bodies for earlier Lamborghini cars, like the 350 GT and the 400 GT.
How Many Isleros Were Made?
By the end of 1969, Lamborghini had built 125 Islero cars.
Later, an updated version of the car was released in 1969. This new model was called the Islero S or Islero GTS. It had a more powerful engine and some small changes to its look. Lamborghini made 100 of these Islero S models. This means a total of 225 Islero cars were built.
Engine and Performance
The Islero used a special engine called a Lamborghini V12. This engine had a size of 3929 cubic centimeters (cc). It was the same engine used in the earlier 400 GT and the later Jarama models.
Engine Power
In the standard Islero, this engine produced about 325 horsepower. Horsepower is a way to measure how powerful a car's engine is. The Islero S, which was the updated version, had an even more powerful engine. It produced about 350 horsepower.
Both versions of the Islero came with a five-speed manual transmission. This transmission was designed by Lamborghini itself.
How Fast Was the Islero?
The standard Islero could go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.4 seconds. Its top speed was around 154 miles per hour.
The Islero S was a bit faster because of its extra engine power. It could go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds. The top speed for the Islero S was about 161 miles per hour.
