Chronology
Predecessor Lamborghini Islero

The Lamborghini Jarama is a cool grand tourer car. It was made by the famous car company Lamborghini. They built it from 1970 to 1976.

The Jarama took the place of an older car called the Lamborghini Islero. It used the same powerful 3.9-liter Lamborghini V12 engine. A famous designer named Marcello Gandini created the Jarama's look.

History of the Jarama

The Jarama was designed to be the new version of the Lamborghini Islero. It was first shown to the public in 1970 at the Geneva Motor Show. Lamborghini built the Jarama to meet special rules in the U.S. for cars. They did this by changing parts of the Lamborghini Espada's frame.

In total, 328 Jarama cars were made. The Jarama weighed about 1,450 kilograms (3,197 pounds) when it was empty. This was a bit heavier than the Islero. It had the same 3.9-liter Lamborghini V12 engine as the Islero and Espada. This engine sent power to the back wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The first Jarama models (from 1970 to 1973) had about 350 horsepower.

Jarama S Model

The Jarama S, also known as the Jarama GTS, came out in 1972. This version had an improved engine. It could make about 365 horsepower. The Jarama S also had a few small changes to its outside look.

One cool feature was that Power assisted steering came standard. This made it much easier to turn the steering wheel. You could also choose to have removable roof panels. These are like parts of the roof that you can take off. An automatic gearbox was also an option. This meant the car changed gears by itself. Lamborghini built 150 of these Jarama S models.

Ferruccio Lamborghini, the person who started the company, really liked the Jarama. He once said that it was his favorite model. He felt it was a perfect mix between the Lamborghini Miura and the Espada.

Engine and Gearbox

The Jarama used a 3.9-liter Lamborghini V12 engine. This is a very powerful type of engine with 12 cylinders. It was the same engine found in the Espada and Islero models.

The engine made 350 horsepower in the regular Jarama. In the Jarama S, it was boosted to 365 horsepower. Most Jaramas had a five-speed manual gearbox. This means the driver had to change gears themselves. For the Jarama S, you could also get a three-speed automatic gearbox. This gearbox changed gears on its own.

How Fast It Was

The Jarama S was quite fast for its time. It could go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 97 kilometers per hour) in just 5.3 seconds. It could also reach 100 miles per hour (161 kilometers per hour) in 11.7 seconds. The Jarama S could finish a quarter-mile race in 13.5 seconds. At the end of that quarter-mile, it would be going 107 miles per hour.
