Geography
Lampang is located in a wide valley. The Wang River flows through the province. This river is an important part of the local landscape.
The province is surrounded by mountain ranges. The tallest mountain in Lampang is Doi Luang. It stands very high at about 1,697 meters (5,568 feet). These mountains make the scenery very pretty.
Economy
Lampang is famous for a few key things. One big industry is making ceramic goods. You can find over 200 ceramic factories here! These factories make all sorts of items. They produce things like plant pots, decorative dolls, and dishes for eating. They also make building materials such as tiles.
Mining is another important activity in Lampang. People dig for special types of clay called ball clay and china stone. These are used to make ceramics. They also mine lignite, which is a type of coal.
The largest power plant in Southeast Asia that uses coal is in Lampang. It's located in Mae Mo district. This plant uses the lignite found nearby to create electricity. There's also a very large concrete factory north of Lampang city. It also uses lignite for power. Another rock mined here is limestone.
Besides mining and factories, farming is important too. Lampang is well-known for growing rice and delicious pineapples.
History
Lampang has a long and interesting past. Around the 11th century, the Khmer Empire ruled this area. Later, in 1292, King Mengrai of the Lanna kingdom took control. He made Lampang a part of his kingdom.
Lampang officially became a province of Thailand in 1892. It has grown and changed a lot since then.
