Lampros Choutos (born December 7, 1979) is a former Greek professional football player. He played as a striker, which is a player whose main job is to score goals. During his career, he spent similar amounts of time playing for teams in his home country, Greece, and in Italy.

Club Career Highlights

Starting His Football Journey

Lampros Choutos was born in Athens, Greece. He began his football journey at a club called Asteras Polygonou. Soon after, scouts from a bigger team, Panathinaikos FC, noticed his talent. After just two years, he moved to Italy to continue his training with AS Roma.

Playing as a Professional

Choutos' first professional team was Olympiacos F.C. in Greece. He joined them on loan from Roma. This move happened after he showed amazing skill during the qualifying games for the 2000 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He scored 15 goals in only ten matches for the Greek Under-21 team!

At Olympiacos, he slowly became an important player. He worked well with other talented forwards, Zlatko Zahovič and Giovanni. Even though he had a knee injury, Choutos scored many important goals. He helped Olympiacos win the Greek Superleague championships in 2000, 2001, and 2003.

Moving to Inter Milan

In 2004, Choutos signed a three-year contract with Inter Milan in Italy. However, he found it hard to settle there. He was often loaned out to other smaller teams, both in Italy and in other countries like Spain, where he played for RCD Mallorca.

He finally played his first official game for Inter Milan on November 9, 2006. This was more than two years after he first joined the club. He came on as a substitute in a Coppa Italia match. He left Inter at the end of the 2006–07 season.

Returning to Greece

In 2007, Choutos returned to Greece and signed with Panionios FC. He started playing regularly again. He famously scored two goals against AEK Athens F.C. at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex, helping his team win. He was even named the Man of the match for that game. He finished that half-season with 12 goals.

His second year at Panionios started well, as he scored two goals in a UEFA Intertoto Cup match. However, after a disagreement with the club's assistant coach, Choutos had to leave the team.

Later Career and Retirement

On February 2, 2009, Choutos signed a six-month contract with PAOK FC in Greece. He played in eight matches but did not score any goals. On August 25, he went back to Italy to play for a smaller team, A.S. Pescina Valle del Giovenco. His contract was ended in July 2010 because the club faced financial problems and was removed from the Italian football league system.

International Career

Thanks to his strong performances for the Greek Under-21 team, Choutos soon made his debut for the main Greek national team. He played ten international matches over four years. However, he was not chosen for the squads that played in the major tournaments, UEFA Euro 2004 and UEFA Euro 2008.
