Lance Cameron Gunn, born on January 9, 1970, is a former American football player. He was a talented defensive back who played in both the National Football League (NFL) and NFL Europe.
Early Life
Lance Gunn grew up near Houston, Texas. He went to North Shore High School in Cloverleaf, Texas. There, he played high school football.
College Football Career
Gunn played college football at the University of Texas in Austin. He spent five years with the team, playing four seasons. In 1990, his team, the Texas Longhorns, won the Southwest Conference. They finished that season ranked third in the country.
Lance Gunn was a top player. He was chosen as an All-Southwest Conference player three times. In 1992, he was named an All-American safety. This means he was one of the best college football players in the nation.
During his college career, he made 298 tackles. He also led his team in interceptions in 1991. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1993 with a degree in marketing. In 2011, Lance Gunn was honored by being added to the Longhorn Hall of Honor.
Professional Football Career
Lance Gunn was chosen by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 1993 NFL Draft. He played one season for the Bengals. After that, he was released from the team.
In 1995, he joined the New Orleans Saints for a short time. Then, in 1996, Gunn played for the Frankfurt Galaxy in the NFL Europe league. His team made it to the World Bowl '96 championship game.
Lance Gunn's football career ended in 1997. This was after he bravely donated a kidney to help his father who was very sick. In 1999, he considered playing for the Texas Terminators in another league. However, he decided to work for Frito Lay instead.
