Lancrans was a small town, also known as a commune, located in the Ain department in eastern France. A commune is like a local government area, and a department is a larger administrative region. Lancrans is now part of a bigger commune called Valserhône, which happened on January 1, 2019. Before this, in 1858, two other places, Vanchy (later Coupy) and Confort, separated from Lancrans to form their own communes.
Where is Lancrans?
The former town of Lancrans is found in a beautiful area. It is located northeast of the Pertes de la Valserine. This is a small canyon where the Valserine river flows, sometimes even going underground. This natural feature used to mark the border with Bellegarde-sur-Valserine. It is similar to another natural wonder called the former Perte du Rhône.
