Elisabeth Amalie of Hesse-Darmstadt (born March 20, 1635 – died August 4, 1709) was a German princess. She became the Electress Palatine when she married Philip William, Elector Palatine. She was his second wife.
Life of Elisabeth Amalie

Elisabeth Amalie was born at the New Palace in Gießen, Germany. Her parents were George II, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt and Sophia Eleonore of Saxony. She had several siblings, including Louis, who later became the ruler of Hesse-Darmstadt. Her sister Anna Sophia became an abbess.
Elisabeth Amalie grew up with strict rules from her mother. Her mother was a very religious Lutheran. Elisabeth Amalie was known for her beautiful blonde hair. She kept this hair color even when she was old. Her daughters, Eleonor Magdalene and Dorothea Sophie, also inherited her blonde hair. Dorothea Sophie was especially famous for it.
On September 3, 1653, Elisabeth Amalie married Philip William of Neuburg in Langenschwalbach. Her husband was about 20 years older than her. He was the heir to the Electoral Palatinate. This was a very important state in the Holy Roman Empire.
Elisabeth Amalie became a Catholic on November 1, 1653. This happened in front of the elector and archbishop of Cologne, Maximilian Henry of Bavaria.
Elisabeth Amalie's Children
Elisabeth Amalie had a very large family. She gave birth to nine sons and eight daughters. Out of these 17 children, 14 lived to become adults.
