Lannon is a small village located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. It is part of the larger Milwaukee metropolitan area. In 2020, about 1,355 people lived in Lannon. The village is known for a special type of stone that was once quarried there.

History of Lannon
Lannon was named after William Lannon. He and his wife moved to this area in 1834. The community officially received the postal name "Lannon" in 1890. In 1930, Lannon became an official village. This happened when parts of the Town of Menomonee were used to create the new village.
Lannon Stone Quarry
Lannon stone is a type of rock, either limestone or dolomite. It gets its name from Lannon because it was dug up, or quarried, here. John Halquist started one of Wisconsin's biggest stone companies using Lannon stone. He began in Sussex, Wisconsin, and then expanded to other places.
Lannon stone was a very important source of building material. It was used in many cities across Wisconsin and also in Chicago. People often used it to cover bridges with a stone layer. You can see examples of Lannon stone at Menonomee Park.

Interesting Facts
Joecks Field in Lannon has a special place in television history. It was the location of ESPN's very first live broadcast. This broadcast was a softball game between two teams: the Kentucky Bourbons and the Milwaukee Schlitz.
