Lari Arthur Ketner (February 1, 1977 – October 10, 2014) was an American professional basketball player. He was a tall and strong forward or center. Lari played college basketball at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The Chicago Bulls picked him in the 1999 NBA draft. He was the 49th player chosen overall.
Playing Basketball
Lari Ketner played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for two seasons. He played for three different teams. These teams were the Chicago Bulls (in the 1999–2000 season), the Cleveland Cavaliers (also 1999–2000), and the Indiana Pacers (in the 2000–01 season). On average, he scored 1.4 points and grabbed 1.4 rebounds per game.
After his time in the NBA, Lari played for some minor league teams. He played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He was part of the Fort Wayne Fury and the Idaho Stampede. In 2005, an incident happened that ended his basketball career.
Life After Basketball
After his playing career, Lari followed his passion for helping others. He worked with children who faced challenges. He worked at several group homes in his hometown of Philadelphia. This allowed him to make a positive difference in young people's lives.
Personal Life and Education
On August 28, 2013, when he was 36 years old, Lari Ketner was diagnosed with a serious illness called colon cancer. Even while battling his illness, Lari worked hard to finish his education. He completed the last three courses he needed for his bachelor's degree. He earned his degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in August 2014.
Lari was married to Aquarius Ketner. He was a father to three children and a stepfather to two. He lived in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lari passed away on October 10, 2014, in Avon, Indiana. He was 37 years old.
