Larry Hernández, born on March 10, 1977, is a talented Mexican-American singer, songwriter, and television personality. He is well-known for his music in the regional Mexican style, especially banda, Pacific norteño, and norteño-banda. Larry looks up to the late Chalino Sanchez as his biggest musical hero. He also admires many other artists. Interestingly, he is a distant cousin of another regional Mexican artist, El Potro de Sinaloa.

Larry lived in Los Angeles until he was four years old. Then, his family moved to Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. He spent most of his teenage years there before starting his exciting music career. Today, he lives in Covina Hills, California.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

When Larry was four, his parents took him to a small town called Pueblos Unidos-Estación Opispo in Culiacán. This is where he grew up. From a very young age, Larry dreamed of making music. By the time he was eight, he was already writing his own songs, called corridos. He would play them for his family to get their ideas and learn from them.

Larry's family inspired him musically, but he taught himself how to write and create songs. To help with his music, he went to a music school in Culiacán. There, he played with a group of musicians from Sinaloa called Los Amables del Norte. He soon joined the band as their drummer. Playing with Los Amables del Norte gave Larry great experience performing for crowds. However, it was his solo career that truly made him famous.

Music Career Highlights

Starting Out in Music

In 1998, Larry Hernández made his first recordings. These included 65 songs that honored the singer Cornelio Reyna. The next year, in 1999, Larry recorded his first solo album, called "Contella Norteña."

After that, Larry recorded eight more albums. These included "Mil Noches" in 2001, "El Amigo de Todos" in 2003, "Linda Chuiquilla" in 2004, "Labrinto" and "Arrepiente" in 2005, "Se Busca Cantar Buenos Corridos" in 2006, and "Hace un Mes" and "Dejate Querer Tantito" in 2008. After these albums, Larry's music career really started to take off!

Rising to Stardom (2009 to Present)

In 2009, Larry released an album that sold over 300,000 copies, which greatly boosted his career. He wrote almost all the songs on this album himself, and he recorded it in just one day! His album "En Vivo: Desde Culiacán" came out later in 2009. It quickly reached the number two spot on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. This success confirmed his place as a big Latino music star.

Some people have had questions about his song lyrics. Larry has explained, "My 'corridos' are not meant to cause problems with anyone. They are made to entertain people, so they can have a good time. The world can be tough, and the only thing I can give people is my talent and a good time so they can forget everything and enjoy themselves."

Even though he recorded seven albums as a solo artist without huge fame at first, his big break came through social media. His fans supported him by sharing his music on YouTube. People who already knew about him started talking about him on internet blogs and music websites. They also uploaded his music videos. As more and more people followed him, he became a true Latino music idol. His growing fame caught the eye of big music companies. He then signed a contract with Universal Music Latin Entertainment. This helped him continue his successful career and move into other areas of mass media.
