He became famous for his Regional Mexican music. In August 2012, his album El Muchacho reached the top of Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart.

Tapia was also a coach on the first two seasons of La Voz Kids (The Voice Kids). This was a Spanish-language version of The Voice for American children who speak Spanish, shown on the Telemundo Network. In 2013, he started businesses, like restaurants, while still continuing his music career.

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Roberto Tapia's parents moved to the United States before he was born. He was born in San Diego. Later, his family decided to move to Mexico. Roberto spent most of his childhood in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

When he was 9 years old, he joined the Difocur School of Music in Culiacán. This school is now called the Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura. Roberto learned to play the clarinet and also studied guitar and percussion instruments. During this time, he gained experience by performing with groups like the Symphony of Sinaloa.

When Roberto was 13, his family moved back to the U.S. At first, he didn't want to perform. But his family and friends encouraged him to sing at local places like dance halls and parties. Before signing with a record label, Roberto went to music stores to try and sell his own recordings.

At 17, Roberto had his first professional performance in Tijuana, Baja California. He performed alongside another artist from Sinaloa, El Lobito de Sinaloa. Soon after, he signed with Sony International. He then started working on his first album. This album mixed his Norteño music style with sounds of electronica and hip hop.
