Lars Edi Stindl (born on August 26, 1988) is a German former professional footballer. He was known for playing as an attacking midfielder. He could also play as a forward.
Stindl played for the German national team from 2017 to 2018. He scored the only goal in the final of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. This important goal against Chile helped Germany win their first-ever title in this competition.

Lars Stindl's Club Career
Lars Stindl was born in Speyer, Germany. He started playing football in youth teams at TSV Wiesental. In the summer of 2000, he joined the youth setup at Karlsruher SC.
Early Professional Years
Stindl began his professional career with Karlsruher SC. His first game was on March 15, 2008, in the Bundesliga. He came into the game in the 81st minute. His team lost 1–0 to Eintracht Frankfurt.
On November 29, 2008, Stindl scored his first Bundesliga goal. This goal was against Hannover 96. In February 2010, he decided to leave Karlsruher SC. His move to Hannover 96 was confirmed on March 16, 2010.
Time at Borussia Mönchengladbach
On March 25, 2015, it was announced that Stindl would join Borussia Mönchengladbach. He started playing for them in the 2015–16 season.
On August 8, 2015, he had a great start with his new club. He scored two goals in a 4–1 win against FC St. Pauli. This was in the first round of the 2015–16 DFB-Pokal cup.
Stindl became the new captain of Gladbach on August 1, 2016. He took over after the previous captain retired.
Memorable Matches
On February 23, 2017, Stindl scored three goals in one game. This is called a hat-trick. He did this against ACF Fiorentina in the UEFA Europa League. His team, Borussia, came back from being 3–0 down to win. This helped them move on to the next round of the UEFA Europa League.
On December 15, 2020, Stindl scored another hat-trick. This time it was against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. Two of his goals came after the 90th minute, which was very exciting!
Return to Karlsruher SC and Retirement
In April 2023, Gladbach announced that Stindl would leave the club. He had played there for eight years. His contract ended at the end of the 2022–23 season.
On April 28, 2023, Karlsruher SC shared that Stindl would return to his first club. On August 11, 2023, he scored his first goal back for the club. This was in a cup game against 1. FC Saarbrücken. However, his team was knocked out of the DFB-Pokal competition.
On March 28, 2024, Stindl announced he would retire from football. He played in over 430 league matches. These games were in both the first and second divisions of German football.

Youth Teams
Stindl played for the German U20 team. He also played one game for the German U21 team.
Senior National Team

Lars Stindl was first called to play for the senior national team in 2017. He was selected for a friendly match against Denmark. He also played in a World Cup qualification game against San Marino. He was part of the squad for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Stindl played his first international game on June 6 against Denmark. He played the whole 90 minutes of the match.
Confederations Cup Success
In the first game of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup against Australia, Stindl scored his first goal for Germany. This happened in the fifth minute of the game.
He scored his second international goal three days later. This was in a 1–1 draw against Chile. He scored again against Chile in the final of the tournament. This was the only goal of the match, helping Germany win the title. He ended up as one of the top goal scorers in the tournament with three goals.
On November 14, 2017, he scored an important goal in the 90th minute. This was in a friendly game against France. His goal made the score 2–2, keeping Germany's unbeaten streak alive for 2017. His last game for Germany was a 0-1 loss against Brazil in March 2018.
