The 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup was a big international football (soccer) tournament. It was the 10th time this competition was held. The event took place in Russia from June 17 to July 2, 2017.
Eight national teams competed in the tournament. These included Russia as the host country. The other seven teams qualified by winning major football championships. How Teams Qualified
Teams earned their spot in the Confederations Cup in different ways. Russia was the host, so they automatically qualified. Other teams had to win major championships.

Semi-finals
The semi-finals saw four strong teams battle it out for a spot in the final.
- On June 28, Portugal played against Chile in Kazan. The match ended 0-0, and Chile won in a penalty shootout (3-0).
- On June 29, Germany faced Mexico in Sochi. Germany won convincingly with a score of 4-1.
Third Place Match
The teams that lost in the semi-finals played for third place.
- On July 2, Portugal played Mexico in Moscow. Portugal won 2-1 after extra time, securing third place.
Final Match
The final was played between Chile and Germany.
- On July 2, Germany defeated Chile 1-0 in Saint Petersburg. This made Germany the champions of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup! The winning goal was scored by Lars Stindl.
