Timo Werner (born on March 6, 1996) is a German professional footballer. He plays as a forward for the German club RB Leipzig. He also plays for the Germany national team.
Werner started his senior club career in 2013 with VfB Stuttgart. He became the youngest player to debut and score for the club. In 2016, he joined RB Leipzig for a club record fee. There, he became the youngest player to reach 150 and 200 appearances in the Bundesliga. He was also the league's second-highest goalscorer in the 2019–20 season.
After becoming Leipzig's all-time top goalscorer, Werner moved to Chelsea in 2020. He won the UEFA Champions League in his first season with Chelsea. He returned to Leipzig in August 2022.
Timo Werner has also played for Germany's national team. He scored many goals for Germany's youth teams. He made his senior debut in 2017. He helped Germany win the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, where he was the top goalscorer. He also played for Germany in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2020.

Timo Werner's Club Career
Playing for VfB Stuttgart

Werner started playing football at TSV Steinhaldenfeld. He joined VfB Stuttgart's youth academy in 2002. In the 2012–13 season, he played for the U-19 team even though he was only 16. He scored 24 goals that season. He also won the Gold U-17 Fritz Walter Medal in 2013 for his great performance.
Werner played his first senior match for Stuttgart in 2013. This was a UEFA Europa League qualifying match. He was 17 years old, making him Stuttgart's youngest player ever in an official game. He also became the youngest player to play in the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal for Stuttgart. He scored his first goal against Eintracht Frankfurt.
On November 10, he scored two goals in a 3–1 win against SC Freiburg. This made him the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score two goals in one game. On his 18th birthday, Werner signed a professional contract with Stuttgart until June 2018. He scored 13 goals in 95 league games for the club. He also became the youngest player to reach 50 Bundesliga appearances. This record was later broken by Kai Havertz in 2018. Stuttgart was relegated in May 2016, so Werner decided to join RB Leipzig.
Playing for RB Leipzig

On June 11, 2016, Werner signed a four-year contract with RB Leipzig. The transfer fee was €10 million, which was the highest in the club's history at that time. On September 26, 2016, he became the youngest player to play in 100 Bundesliga matches. He was 20 years and 203 days old. He broke the record held by Julian Draxler. However, Kai Havertz later broke Werner's record in 2019. Werner finished the 2016–17 Bundesliga season with 21 goals. He was the top German goalscorer in the league. He helped RB Leipzig qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time.
In March 2018, Werner played against his old club, Stuttgart. He became the youngest player to reach 150 Bundesliga appearances. Later that month, he scored the winning goal against Bayern Munich. This was Leipzig's first-ever win against Bayern. He scored 13 goals and made seven assists that season.
On October 7, 2018, Werner scored his 50th Bundesliga goal in a 6–0 win over 1. FC Nürnberg. This was also RB Leipzig's biggest win in the competition. The next month, he scored two goals against Hertha BSC. This was his tenth time scoring two goals in a game. By December 16, he had scored 10 league goals for the season. He made his 100th appearance for RB Leipzig on January 27, 2019. On May 4, he became the first player to score 50 Bundesliga goals for the club.
Werner scored his first Bundesliga hat-trick on August 30, 2019, against Borussia Mönchengladbach. On October 5, he played his 100th league game for Leipzig. In November, he scored another hat-trick and made three assists. This helped Leipzig win 8–0 against Mainz, their biggest Bundesliga win. On November 23, he became the youngest player to reach 200 Bundesliga appearances.
In his last game for Leipzig on June 27, 2020, Werner scored both goals in a 2–1 win against Augsburg. He left Leipzig with 95 goals, becoming the club's all-time top goalscorer.
Playing for Chelsea

On June 18, 2020, Werner agreed to join Premier League club Chelsea. Chelsea paid £47.5 million for him. He joined the club on July 1. He played his first league game for Chelsea on September 14. On September 29, Werner scored his first goal for Chelsea in a League Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur. On October 17, he scored his first two Premier League goals against Southampton. He scored his first Champions League goal for Chelsea on October 28.
On February 15, 2021, Werner scored in a 2–0 win against Newcastle United. This ended his 14-game goal drought in the league. On May 5, he scored the first goal in a 2–0 win against Real Madrid. This helped Chelsea reach the Champions League final. On May 29, he won his first UEFA Champions League title. Chelsea beat Manchester City in the final.
Werner started the 2021–22 season in the 2021 UEFA Super Cup match on August 11, 2021. Chelsea won the penalty shootout after a 1–1 draw. He scored his first goal of the season in a Carabao Cup game against Aston Villa. His first Premier League goal of the season was on October 2 against Southampton. On December 8, 2021, Werner scored Chelsea's fastest Champions League goal. He scored after only 82 seconds against Zenit Saint Petersburg. He scored another goal in that 3–3 draw. On April 12, 2022, he scored for Chelsea against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals. However, Real Madrid won the game and moved on.
Returning to RB Leipzig
On August 9, 2022, Werner rejoined RB Leipzig. He signed a four-year contract. On August 13, Werner played his first game back for Leipzig in a 2–2 draw against Köln. He scored a goal in that match. On October 1, 2022, Werner scored two goals against Bochum. These were his 100th and 101st goals for Leipzig in all competitions. This made him the first player to score 100 goals for the club.
On November 2, 2022, Werner got an ankle injury during a Champions League game. This injury meant he could not play for Germany in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Werner scored his 100th Bundesliga goal on April 15, 2023, in a 3–2 win over Augsburg.
Loan to Tottenham Hotspur
On January 9, 2024, Werner joined Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur on loan. The loan was until the end of the 2023–24 season. He played his first game for Tottenham on January 14. He helped set up a goal in a 2–2 draw against Manchester United. He scored his first goal for Tottenham on March 2 in a 3–1 win against Crystal Palace. Werner scored again in the next game, a 4–0 win against Aston Villa.
In late May 2024, Tottenham extended Werner's loan for another season. On October 30, 2024, Werner scored his first goal of the 2024–25 season. This was in a League Cup match against Manchester City, which Tottenham won. On May 21, 2025, Werner won his first trophy with Tottenham. They beat Manchester United in the Europa League final. On May 31, 2025, Werner's loan ended, and he returned to RB Leipzig.
Timo Werner's International Career

Werner played for Germany's youth teams, including U15, U16, U17, U19, and U21. He scored 34 goals in 48 matches for these teams. In 2010, he scored three goals in his first game for Germany U15. In 2012, he was part of the Germany team that finished second in the 2012 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
In 2017, Werner was called up to the German senior squad. This was for a friendly match against England and a World Cup qualification match.
On May 17, 2017, Werner was chosen for Germany's squad for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. He scored his first two international goals on June 25 against Cameroon. Four days later, Werner scored Germany's third goal in a 4–1 win against Mexico. On July 2, 2017, Werner helped set up the winning goal in the final against Chile.
