History of the Red Bull Arena
The stadium was first built between 1954 and 1956. Back then, it was called the Zentralstadion. It was huge, able to hold 100,000 visitors!
The Old Zentralstadion
The original stadium was used for many big events. These included sports festivals for GDR (which was a country that existed from 1949 to 1990). It also hosted football matches for the GDR national team and other sports. The most people ever in the stadium was 110,000. This happened during a football match between SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt and FC Kaiserslautern.
Modern Renovation and New Name
The stadium was completely updated between 2000 and 2004. After this big renovation, it could hold fewer people. The first game in the newly renovated stadium was between FC Sachsen Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund (Amateure). About 28,000 fans came to watch. Today, the stadium is mainly used for football matches and concerts.
In 2010, the company Red Bull bought the rights to name the stadium for 30 years. That's why it's now called the "Red Bull Arena." It also became the home ground for the football club RB Leipzig, which is owned by Red Bull.
Big Football Tournaments
The Red Bull Arena has been an important venue for major international football tournaments. It hosted games for both the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

- Australia vs. Tunesia: 44,337 visitors
- Brazil vs. Greece: 42,507 visitors
2006 FIFA World Cup Matches
