The Story of Genesis Members
Over the years, the band Genesis had many changes in its members. The first group included Peter Gabriel (who sang), Anthony Phillips (on guitar), Tony Banks (on keyboards), Mike Rutherford (playing bass and guitar), and Chris Stewart (on drums).
Other drummers joined before 1970, like John Silver and John Mayhew. In August 1970, Phil Collins became the new drummer for Genesis. He also started singing on some songs. That same year, Anthony Phillips left the band. Steve Hackett then joined as the guitarist in 1971.
The band even made a very long song called "Supper's Ready." It is almost 23 minutes long! Many fans think it is one of their best songs. This is because it has many different musical parts.
After the album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway came out in 1974, Peter Gabriel left the band. Phil Collins then became the main singer. He sang for Genesis from 1976 to 1996. When Steve Hackett also left in 1977, only three members were left. Because of this, their 1978 album was named ...And Then There Were Three....
Genesis went on to create many popular songs. Some of these include "Abacab," "Invisible Touch," and "No Son of Mine."
The last studio album with Phil Collins was We Can't Dance in 1991. He left the band in 1996. A new singer named Ray Wilson took his place. However, the album Calling All Stations (1997) with Ray Wilson was not very popular. So, the group decided to stop playing together.
After eight years, Genesis started a world tour in 2006. The members at that time were Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks. The band stopped playing again in 2011 because Phil Collins retired. Collins later came back from retirement in 2015.
Genesis was honored and added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
