Las Cabras is a town and commune in Chile. It is located in the Cachapoal Province of the O'Higgins Region. This area is well-known for its farming and handmade crafts. The name Las Cabras means "The Goats" in Spanish. This is because many goats used to live in the nearby mountains.

Population and Area Facts
In 2002, a count of the people, called a census, was done by the National Statistics Institute. It showed that Las Cabras covers an area of about 749.2 square kilometers. At that time, 20,242 people lived there.
Of these residents, 10,621 were men and 9,621 were women. About 7,548 people (37.3%) lived in urban areas, which are towns or cities. The other 12,694 people (62.7%) lived in rural areas, like the countryside. Between 1992 and 2002, the number of people living in Las Cabras grew by 14.1%. This means 2,504 more people moved there.

Local Government Structure
As a commune, Las Cabras is a local area with its own government. It is managed by a group called a municipal council. This council is led by an alcalde, who is like a mayor. The alcalde is chosen by the people in an election every four years.
Representing Las Cabras in Chile's Government
Las Cabras is part of a larger area for choosing government leaders. In the Chamber of Deputies, which is like one part of Chile's parliament, Las Cabras is in the 34th electoral district. This district also includes other towns like San Fernando and San Vicente.
For the Senate, which is the other part of Chile's parliament, Las Cabras is in the 9th senatorial area. This area covers the whole O'Higgins Region.
