Meet Latenivenatrix: The Giant Troodontid
Latenivenatrix was a very interesting dinosaur. It lived a long, long time ago. This dinosaur was first discovered in North America. It helps us learn more about ancient life on Earth.
What is a Troodontid?
Troodontids were smart, bird-like dinosaurs. They had big brains for their body size. They also had large eyes. This might mean they hunted at night. Many troodontids were small. But Latenivenatrix was different.
Size and Features
Latenivenatrix was a very big troodontid. Its skull, or head bone, was about 18 centimetres (7.1 in) long. The whole dinosaur was about 3–3.5 metres (9.8–11.5 ft) long. That is like three to three and a half big steps for an adult! This makes Latenivenatrix the largest troodontid ever found.
When and Where it Lived
Latenivenatrix lived during the Campanian age. This was part of the Late Cretaceous period. It lived about 75.5 million years ago. This dinosaur roamed what is now North America. It was found in places like Alberta, Canada.
