Latifur Rahman (born March 1, 1936 – died June 6, 2017) was an important leader in Bangladesh. He served as the 10th Chief Justice of Bangladesh, which is the highest judge in the country. He also became the 2nd Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, leading a special temporary government.

Early Life and Education
Latifur Rahman was born in Jessore, a city in Bangladesh, on March 1, 1936. His father was a lawyer, and his uncle was also a judge.
He studied English literature at the University of Dhaka and earned his master's degree in 1956. Later, he also got his law degree from the same university. He even taught at Shahid Suhrawardy College for a while.
His Career in Law
Latifur Rahman began his career as a lawyer in 1960. He worked at the Dhaka High Court. He learned a lot from MH Khandaker, who was Bangladesh's first top government lawyer, called the attorney general.
He became a permanent judge in the High Court in 1981. This meant he could make official decisions in important legal cases. On January 15, 1990, he became a judge in the Appellate Division, which is an even higher court.
Becoming Chief Justice
On January 1, 2000, Latifur Rahman became the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. This is a very important role, as the Chief Justice leads the entire court system. He retired from this position on February 28, 2001.
Leading the Caretaker Government
After retiring as Chief Justice, he took on another big role. From July 15, 2001, to October 10, 2001, he was the chief adviser of the caretaker government. This is a special temporary government that steps in to make sure elections are fair and free. His government helped manage the eighth parliamentary election in Bangladesh.
