Latifur Rahman (born August 28, 1945 – died July 1, 2020) was a very successful Bangladeshi businessman. He was known for starting and leading the Transcom Group. This big company works in many different areas.

Transcom Group brings popular international brands to Bangladesh. These include well-known names like Pizza Hut, KFC, Pepsi, and Philips. The company also deals with drinks, electronics, medicines, fast food, and even newspapers. Latifur Rahman was also a founder of Mediaworld and chairman of Mediastar. These companies own two of Bangladesh's most important newspapers, The Daily Daily Star and Prothom Alo.

In 2012, Rahman received a special award called the Oslo Business for Peace Award. He got this award because he showed great honesty and responsibility in his business dealings.

Latifur Rahman's Business Journey

Latifur Rahman began his career in 1966. He started as a trainee in his family's jute mills in Chandpur District. He worked there until 1971, learning a lot about business.

Starting Transcom Group

In 1972, the family's main jute mill was taken over by the government. After this, Latifur Rahman decided to start his own company. He founded the Transcom Group in 1973.

During the 1980s, his company became the only one to import and distribute Nestlé products in Bangladesh. This meant that if you wanted a Nestlé product, it came through Transcom. In the 1990s, he bought a pharmaceutical company. He renamed it Eskayef, and it became a very important part of his business.

Leadership Roles

Latifur Rahman was a respected leader in the business world. In 2014, he was chosen to be a member of the executive board of the International Chamber of Commerce. This is a big international business group based in Paris. He also served as the president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) in Dhaka.

His Family Life

Latifur Rahman was married to Shahnaz Rahman. They had three daughters: Simeen Hossain, Shazneen Rahman, and Shahzreh Huq. They also had one son, Arshad Waliur Rahman.

His daughter, Simeen Hossain, followed in his footsteps. She is now a managing director at Eskayef Bangladesh Limited and other Transcom companies. Sadly, his daughter Shazneen passed away at a young age in 1998. His grandson, Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain, also passed away in 2016.

Latifur Rahman passed away on July 1, 2020, at his home in Chauddagram Upazila, Cumilla. He was 75 years old. He was buried at Banani Graveyard in Dhaka.
