Laura Bingham (also known as Laura Stafford), born in 1993, is an amazing English explorer and adventurer. She is famous for being the first person to travel all the way down the Essequibo River in Guyana, South America. In 2017, she was even featured on the cover of British Airways' High Life magazine. She was called "The Adventurer" alongside other famous explorers like Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Tim Peake, and her husband, Ed Stafford.

Laura's Early Life

Laura Bingham grew up in the beautiful English countryside. She is the youngest of four sisters. Her family often visited South Africa, and Laura even went to school there for a short time. She attended Westgate secondary school and then Peter Symonds College in Winchester, her hometown. When she was 18, Laura left home to start her travels around the world.

Teaching and Conservation in Mexico

In 2014, Laura traveled to Mexico. There, she used her TEFL qualification to teach English. While in Mexico, she also helped with important conservation work. She worked with the government to protect jaguars. During these four months, Laura learned to speak Spanish quite well.

Sailing Across the Atlantic

After earning enough money in Mexico, Laura decided not to fly home to Britain. Instead, in May 2014, she chose a much more adventurous way to travel. She joined a crew on a 38-foot Trimaran sailboat. This journey took two months to sail across the Atlantic Ocean.

Cycling Across South America

In January 2016, Laura took on another huge challenge. She cycled 7,000 kilometers (about 4,350 miles) across South America. She started on the west coast and rode all the way to the east coast. This incredible journey helped her raise money for a charity called Operation South Africa.

Exploring the Essequibo River

In April 2018, Laura Bingham planned and led an expedition down the Essequibo River in Guyana. This was a very challenging journey, and she became the first person to complete it. Laura is also a special helper, called an ambassador, for the Children's Air Ambulance charity. This charity helps transport sick children quickly by helicopter.

Laura's Family Life

Laura Bingham used to live in Leicestershire, England, with her husband, Ed Stafford. Ed is also a well-known explorer. In April 2023, Laura and Ed moved to Costa Rica. They have four children together.
