Lawrence is a small town located in St. Lawrence County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 1,826 people lived there. The town is named after William Lawrence, who was one of the first people to own land in the area.
The Town of Lawrence is on the eastern edge of St. Lawrence County, just east of a place called Potsdam.

A Look at Lawrence's History
People started settling in the Lawrence area shortly after the year 1800. However, many of them left during the War of 1812. A new road built in 1827 helped bring more settlers back to Lawrence.
Lawrence officially became a town in 1828. It was created from parts of two other towns: Brasher and Hopkinton.

Lawrence covers an area of about 47.7 square miles (123.5 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land, with only a tiny bit being water.
The eastern border of the town is also the border of Franklin County.
Two important rivers flow through Lawrence:
- The Deer River flows from the southeast to the northwest.
- The east branch of the St Regis River crosses the southern part of the town.
Several main roads help people travel through Lawrence:
- U.S. Route 11 and New York State Route 11C run from east to west.
- New York State Route 11B cuts across the southeast corner of the town.

- Laverys Cornyewers – A spot west of Lawrenceville, where County Road 54 and County Road 55 connect.
- Lawrenceville – A village in the eastern part of the town, near the Deer River and the junction of US-11, County Road 54, and County Road 55.
- McEwens Corners – A village located west of Lawrenceville on Route 54.
- Nicholville – A village by the St. Regis River, where NY-11B and County Road 55 meet. A small part of it is in the Town of Hopkinton. This settlement was once called "Sodom."
- North Lawrence – A village near the northern town line, on NY-11C and County Road 55. It was first settled around 1827.
- Taylors Corners – A village east of Lawrenceville, close to the eastern town border.
- Wagstaff Corners – A village located where County Road 51 and County Road 54 meet, west of Lawrenceville.
