Park History: A Look Back

They also wanted to celebrate the unique history of these communities. Lawrence Heritage State Park officially opened in 1980. The park's main visitor center was fully restored in 1986.

The Visitors Center

Pemberton Park: Views and Water Fun
Pemberton Park is a five-acre park in the city. From here, you can see the old factories and the historic dam. It's a great spot for fishing. You can also go boating on the water.
Lawrence Riverfront State Park: Sports and Trails
This part of the park is the furthest west. It runs right along the Merrimack River. It has areas for groups to gather. There are also courts for basketball, tennis, and street hockey. You can walk on the wooded trails too. In the summer, you can even take sailing lessons at the Bashara Boathouse.
The park also has paths for bikes. You can enjoy a picnic with your family or friends. They often have public events like concerts and plays. The park also hosts the yearly Bread and Roses Festival.
