Layton is a lively area, or 'suburb,' located in Blackpool, England. It's part of the Borough of Blackpool in Lancashire. In 2011, about 6,845 people lived here.

Layton's Location and Landscape
Layton is pretty much in the middle of Blackpool. Even though it's not right by the coast where many businesses are, it covers a big part of the town.
Layton shares its borders with several other areas:
- To the north, you'll find Bispham.
- To the west, there's Whitegate.
- To the east, it borders Grange Park.
- To the south, you'll find Marton.
Most of the land in Layton is flat. However, there is one small hill in the northeast part of the area.
A Glimpse into Layton's Past
Layton has an interesting history. Long ago, it was known as Layton with Warbreck. This was one of two 'townships' (small local areas) within the larger parish of Bispham.
The town of Blackpool actually started within Layton's boundaries! In 1851, Layton with Warbreck became a 'Local Board of Health District'. This meant it had its own local government to look after things like public health.
Later, in 1866, it also became a 'civil parish'. The local board changed its name to Blackpool in 1868. Then, in 1876, the district officially became a 'municipal borough'. This gave it even more power to govern itself. The name of the civil parish stayed Layton with Warbreck until 1894, when it was finally renamed Blackpool.

Shops and Businesses
The northern part of Layton is a busy area with lots of shops and other businesses. It's one of the main shopping spots in Blackpool, outside of the town centre itself.
Community Places
In Layton, you can find a local library, which is great for borrowing books and learning. There are also several churches and pubs.
Parks and Green Spaces
Layton is home to a few small parks. These are perfect for relaxing or playing. You'll also find a number of bowling greens, where people enjoy playing lawn bowls.
The main fire station for Blackpool is located in the southern part of Layton. This is where firefighters are ready to help keep the town safe.
Kingscote Park
Layton also boasts a large park called Kingscote Park. It's the second biggest park in all of Blackpool! It's also the largest park within Layton itself, offering plenty of space for outdoor activities.
Layton Cemetery
Layton Cemetery is the biggest cemetery in the area. It was created when Blackpool was growing rapidly in Victorian times. It even has a small area specifically for Jewish burials.
Layton Railway Station
The Layton railway station is located on Bispham Road. It used to be called 'Bispham railway station'. This station is on the train line that goes to Blackpool North.
