Leandro Damián Cufré is a football coach and a former player from Argentina. He was born on May 9, 1978. He used to play as a defender, which means he helped protect his team's goal. Since 2021, he has been an assistant coach for the Venezuela national football team.

Leandro Cufré started his football journey in his hometown with a team called Gimnasia La Plata. Later, he moved to Europe and played for several big clubs. Some of these clubs include Roma in Italy, Monaco in France, and Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia. Towards the end of his playing career, he moved to Mexico, where he mostly played for Atlas.

He also played for his country, Argentina, four times. He was part of the Argentine team that went to the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Starting Out in Argentina

Leandro Cufré was born in La Plata, Argentina. He began his professional football career with the youth team of Gimnasia La Plata in January 1996. He quickly moved up to the main team. During his time there, he played in 129 games and scored four goals.

Playing in Italy: Roma and Siena

In January 2002, Cufré moved to Italy to play for AS Roma, a famous team in the Serie A league. He played 80 games for Roma and scored two goals. He even won an award for being the Best Defender in Italy! For a short time, he was loaned to another Italian team, Siena, where he played 35 matches.

Adventures in France with Monaco

In the summer of 2006, Cufré moved to France. He joined AS Monaco, a team in the Ligue 1 league. He played 61 games for Monaco and scored three goals. He was a regular player and even became the team's vice-captain, which means he was one of the leaders on the field.

A Short Stop in Germany

On January 29, 2009, Cufré went on loan to Hertha BSC, a team in Germany's Bundesliga league. He played for them until the end of the 2008–09 season and then returned to Monaco in June 2009.

Back to Argentina and Then Croatia

On July 18, 2009, Cufré returned to his first club, Gimnasia La Plata, after playing in Europe for eight years. However, he left the team soon after due to a disagreement with the coach at the time.

Just a few days later, on August 19, 2009, he signed a contract with Dinamo Zagreb, the champions of Croatia. Cufré quickly became a favorite among Dinamo fans because he always played with great effort. He played in many important games for the team. In 2011, he was almost transferred to another club, but the deal didn't happen. Cufré played 53 matches for Dinamo. On December 5, he and Dinamo decided to end his contract, and he announced he would continue his career in Mexico.

Playing in Mexico with Atlas

On December 7, 2011, the same day he left Dinamo Zagreb, it was announced that Cufré would join Club Atlas in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Leandro Cufré's International Career

Leandro Cufré played for the Argentina four times. His first game for his country was in 2000. He was also part of the Argentina Under-20 team that won the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship in Malaysia. This was a big achievement for young players.

Cufré was also chosen to be part of the Argentina squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. During a quarter-final match against Germany on June 30, 2006, there was an incident after the game. Cufré, who was not playing in that match, received a red card for his involvement in the disagreement. As a result, FIFA (the world football governing body) fined him 10,000 Swiss francs and suspended him for four matches.
