Leandro Daniel Paredes, born on June 29, 1994, is a professional football player from Argentina. He plays as a defensive midfielder for the Italian club Roma and is also a key player for the Argentina national team. Paredes was part of the amazing team that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Club Career

Leandro Paredes has played for many top football clubs around the world. He started his journey in Argentina before moving to Europe.

Starting with Boca Juniors

Paredes began his professional career with Boca Juniors, a famous club in Argentina. He played his first league game for them on November 6, 2010. In January 2014, he moved to Italy to join Chievo Verona on a short loan.

Playing for Roma

After his time at Chievo, Paredes joined Roma, another big club in Italy. He first joined them on a temporary deal in July 2014. He made his debut for Roma on September 27, 2014.

He scored his first goal for Roma in February 2015. Later that year, Roma officially signed him permanently.

Moving to Zenit Saint Petersburg

On July 1, 2017, Paredes moved to Russia to play for Zenit Saint Petersburg. He signed a four-year contract with the club.

Time at Paris Saint-Germain

In January 2019, Paredes joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in France. He signed a long-term contract with the team. He scored his first goal for PSG exactly one year after joining, in a French Cup match. He even wore the captain's armband in that game! In April 2021, he scored his first league goal for PSG with a great free-kick.

Loan to Juventus

In August 2022, Paredes went back to Italy. He joined Juventus, another well-known club, on a loan deal for one season.

Returning to Roma

On August 16, 2023, Paredes made a comeback to Roma. He signed a new contract to play for them until June 2025, returning to a club where he had played before.

International Career

Leandro Paredes has also had an exciting career playing for his home country, Argentina.

Early International Matches

Paredes got his first call-up to the senior Argentina team in May 2017. He made his first international appearance in June 2017 against Singapore. He even scored his first goal for Argentina in that game, helping them win 6–0!

Copa América and World Cup

In May 2018, he was considered for Argentina's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup but didn't make the final team. However, in 2019, he was part of the Argentina squad for the 2019 Copa América. Argentina finished third in that tournament, and Paredes was even named one of the "Best XI" players!

In June 2021, he was again part of the Argentina squad for the 2021 Copa América. In the semi-finals, Argentina played against Colombia. The game went to a penalty shootout, and Paredes successfully scored his penalty, helping Argentina reach the final.

Winning the World Cup

The biggest moment came in November 2022. Paredes was chosen for Argentina's team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. During the quarter-final match against the Netherlands, there was a tense moment where Paredes kicked the ball towards the Dutch bench, which caused a small argument between the teams. Argentina won that match in a penalty shootout, and Paredes scored one of the crucial penalties.

In the World Cup final against France, the game was tied even after extra time. It went to another penalty shootout. Paredes stepped up and scored the second-to-last penalty, helping Argentina win the World Cup 4–2 in the shootout! It was an incredible victory for him and his team.

In June 2024, Paredes was again part of the Argentina squad that won the 2024 Copa América.

Personal Life

Leandro Paredes has family roots in Paraguay through his mother. He can speak the Guaraní language fluently. His cousin, Franco, is also a professional football player.
