The Leer district (called Landkreis Leer in German) is a special area in Lower Saxony, Germany. It's like a county or region that has its own local government. The main town and capital of this district is Leer.
This district is located in the southern part of a region called East Frisia. A big river named the Ems River flows right through the Leer district. It starts in the south and empties into the Dollart, which is a bay connected to the North Sea.
A cool part of the Leer district is the island of Borkum. This island is one of the East Frisian Islands and is a popular place to visit. Also, some of the district's land is part of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. This park is famous for its unique nature and wildlife.
