Lehamite Falls is a beautiful waterfall found in Yosemite National Park in California, USA. It's made up of a long series of steep drops, called cascades, that tumble down an amazing 1,180 feet (about 360 meters) into the Yosemite Valley. This makes it similar to another waterfall nearby called Sentinel Fall. You can find Lehamite Falls in a small crack in the north wall of the valley, known as Indian Canyon. It's just to the right of the famous Yosemite Falls and can be seen from above Yosemite Village. The name "Lehamite" comes from a native word meaning "arrowwood."

Discovering Lehamite Falls

Lehamite Falls is often called one of the most overlooked waterfalls in Yosemite National Park. This is mainly because it's located so close to the much larger and more famous Yosemite Falls, so many visitors don't notice it.

When to See the Falls

Lehamite Falls is also not as well-known because it only appears at certain times of the year. You can usually see it in the early spring when snow is melting, or after a lot of rain has fallen. During drier times, the waterfall might not be flowing at all.

A Special Name

One cool fact about Lehamite Falls is that it's one of the few places in Yosemite National Park that still has its original name from the Ahwahneechee people. The Ahwahneechee are the Native American people who lived in Yosemite Valley for thousands of years. Keeping their original name helps us remember the history and culture of the area.
