Leigh is a small village located in Colfax County, Nebraska, in the United States. In 2020, about 435 people lived there.

History of Leigh

Leigh was started in the 1870s. It got its name from the maiden name of the first postmaster's wife. A post office opened in Leigh in 1875.

Some notable people were born in or near Leigh:

  • Carl H. Jark (1905–1984) was born in Leigh. He grew up to become a Lieutenant General in the United States Army.
  • Audrey Stevens Niyogi (1932–2010) was born near Leigh. She was an American biochemist. She is famous for helping to discover RNA polymerase, which is a very important enzyme in biology.
