Leighann Lord is an American comedian, writer, and actress. She is known for her funny stand-up comedy shows. She has also appeared on TV and co-hosted popular podcasts. One of her famous roles was co-hosting Star Talk Radio with scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson. Since 2020, she has also co-hosted the Point of Inquiry podcast. Leighann Lord is also a fellow with the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, which means she helps people think critically.

Growing Up and School

Leighann Lord was born in South Jamaica, a neighborhood in Queens, New York City. Her parents were from the West Indies. She says that her family's culture and wanting to avoid being teased helped her get into comedy. She learned that if she made people laugh with her, they wouldn't laugh at her. This idea helped her find her path.

She went to Baruch College in New York. There, she studied journalism, creative writing, and theater. She was very interested in working in show business. In 1989, she graduated with high honors. She earned a degree in journalism and creative writing.

Her Journey in Comedy

After college, Leighann Lord worked in banking for five years. But she still loved the idea of show business. Soon, she started performing stand-up comedy in clubs.

She has performed her comedy on many TV shows. These include "Girls Night Out" on Lifetime and "Premium Blend" on Comedy Central. She also won a contest on ABC's "The View." Some of the comedians who inspired her include George Carlin and Carol Burnett.

Besides performing her own jokes, Leighann Lord has also written for TV shows. She was a writer for The Chris Rock Show. She also writes a funny newspaper column called "The Urban Erma."

In 2014, she published a book called Dict Jokes. It's a funny book with new definitions for words.

In 2015, Leighann Lord was a guest on Star Talk Radio. She talked with Neil deGrasse Tyson about science topics like warp drives.

Leighann Lord also works with groups that promote humanism. In 2012, she was part of a campaign that showed her alongside famous African American humanists. These included Zora Neale Hurston and Frederick Douglass.

She was the host at CSICon in 2019, which is a big meeting for skeptics. She used her humor to ask interesting questions. In 2021, her TV comedy special, Leighann Lord: I Mean Business, was released.

As of 2022, Leighann Lord is a fellow with the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. She also co-hosts a web series called Skeptical Inquirer Presents. In 2023, she hosted a big event for powerful women in banking in New York City. She also performed a comedy routine at CSICon 2023.
