How Lenox Started
Lenox was planned out in 1888. This happened when a railroad line was built to reach that area. People say the town got its name from a story about a "lean ox".
The Georgia General Assembly, which is like Georgia's state government, officially made Lenox a town in 1901.
Where Lenox Is Located
Lenox is in the northern part of Cook County. You can find it at these coordinates: 31°16′N 83°28′W / 31.267°N 83.467°W.
A main road, U.S. Route 41, goes right through the middle of town. It's called Robinson Street there. Another big highway, Interstate 75, is on the west side of Lenox. You can get to it from Exit 49.
The city of Tifton is about 13 miles (21 km) north of Lenox. Adel, which is the main city of Cook County, is about 10 miles (16 km) south.
The United States Census Bureau says Lenox covers a total area of about 1.6 square miles (4.2 square kilometers). A small part of this area, about 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometers), is water.
