Leopoldo Saro y Marín (born January 11, 1878 – died August 19, 1936) was an important Spanish army general. He was given the special title of Count of Playa de Ixdain. This was because of his success during a big military operation called the Alhucemas landing. The title refers to the beach where his soldiers landed.

Military Career
Service in Morocco
In 1921, during the Rif War, Saro was sent to Morocco. He became well-known for his brave actions in many military battles. He worked alongside other famous generals like Cabanellas and Sanjurjo. Because of his success, he was promoted to the rank of general.
Role in the Primo de Rivera Coup
General Saro was part of a secret group of military leaders. This group was called the Quadrilateral. They played a big part in the Coup of Primo de Rivera in September 1923. A coup is when a group suddenly takes control of a government, usually by force. General Saro was not very interested in politics. He quickly went back to Africa after the coup.
The Alhucemas Landing
In Africa, General Saro helped plan the Alhucemas landing. This was a very important military operation. He successfully led one of the attack groups during this landing. Because of his leadership, he was promoted again to General of Division. He was also given the title of Count of Playa de Ixdain by King Alfonso XIII.
Later Years and Challenges
When the Second Spanish Republic began, General Saro left the army. He faced legal issues because of his actions during the 1923 coup. He was found guilty of certain charges and spent time in prison. However, he was later set free in 1934.
