Leslie Ann Sykes, born on June 27, 1965, is a well-known American television news anchor. She is also a journalist and reporter. You can see her as a co-anchor on Eyewitness News at KABC-TV. This is an ABC television station in Los Angeles. She helps present the news in the mornings and at midday.

About Leslie Sykes' Early Life
Leslie Ann Sykes was born in San Diego, California. Her parents were Abel Baxton Sykes, Jr. and Sylvia Mae Thierry Sykes. She has two older sisters named Dawn Carol and Daphne Grace. Leslie grew up in Compton, California. Her father worked there as an administrator for Compton Community College.
Leslie went to St. Joseph High School (Lakewood, California). After high school, she attended Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She studied and earned a degree in English. While at college, she even appeared in a movie! She played "Miss Mission" in Spike Lee's 1988 film, School Daze.
Leslie Sykes' Career in News
After finishing college, Leslie Sykes started her career as a journalist. One of her first jobs was reporting for the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner newspaper. She then had an internship at KCOP-TV, a local TV station. This led to a job as a desk assistant at KTTV, another TV news station.
First On-Air Jobs
Leslie got her first chance to be on TV in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She worked at WDAM-TV. There, she was a reporter, which means she gathered news stories. She also anchored three news shows every day. Plus, she helped produce the newscasts.
From Mississippi, she moved to a bigger city for her next job. She worked at WVUE-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana. In December 1994, Leslie Sykes came back to Los Angeles. She became a general assignment reporter for KABC-TV's Eyewitness News.
Becoming a News Anchor
In 1998, a TV station in Chicago called WBBM-TV wanted Leslie to be their main weekend anchor. But Leslie decided to stay in Los Angeles. She liked working at KABC-TV.
In June 1999, Leslie Sykes was promoted. She became a co-anchor for the weekend Eyewitness News. Later, in 2009, she received another promotion. She started co-anchoring the 11 AM to noon news slot. She also joined the team for Eyewitness News This Morning.
Leslie Sykes' Personal Life
Leslie Sykes is married to Patrick W. Spann. They have one son together. The family lives in the View Park-Windsor Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.
