Lester Archer (born in 1838 – died October 27, 1864) was a brave American soldier. He fought during the American Civil War. He earned the Medal of Honor, which is a very special award for showing great courage.
A Brave Soldier's Story
Lester Archer was born in 1838 in a place called Fort Ann, New York. When he was older, he joined the Union Army. This was during the American Civil War, a big war in America. He served in a group called the 96th New York Infantry.
Lester Archer showed amazing bravery during a battle. This battle was called the Battle of Chaffin's Farm. Because of his actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. This is the highest award for military bravery. Sadly, Lester Archer died on October 27, 1864. He passed away before he could receive his medal. So, the Medal of Honor was given to his family after he died. This is called receiving it posthumously.
