Letha is a small, quiet community in Gem County, Idaho. It's not a big city with its own government, but rather a place where people live and work together without a formal town council. You can find Letha about 8 miles (13 km) west of a town called Emmett. The Payette River flows nearby, to the northeast of Letha.

The Story of Letha

Letha was started a long time ago by two people, W.W. Wilton and a man known as Colonel Barnard. They decided to name the community after Wilton's daughter, whose name was Letha Wilton.

The founders hoped Letha would become a very important train hub. It was built about halfway along the railway line that connected Emmett to New Plymouth, Idaho. Even though it didn't become a major train center, Letha is still an important place today. It serves as a helpful spot for the farms and ranches that are located nearby.

In 1960, about 100 people were estimated to live in Letha.

What You'll Find in Letha

Even though Letha is a small community, it has some important services for its residents. You can find a fire department ready to help in emergencies. There are also places for religious gatherings. Some manufacturing businesses operate here too.

For other services like police, medical care, or higher education, people in Letha usually go to the nearby town of Emmett.
