Lewis and Clark Landing is a fun public park in Downtown Omaha, Nebraska. It covers about 23-acre (9.3 ha) of land. The park sits right along the Missouri River. It has a special river walk that is eight feet tall (2.4 m). You can find it just north of U.S. Interstate 480.

Park History

The famous Lewis and Clark Expedition happened from 1804 to 1806. These explorers traveled to map new lands for the United States. The U.S. had bought this land from France in 1803. Lewis and Clark Landing is the exact spot where the expedition first landed. This was on the west bank of the Missouri River.

Before it was a park, the land belonged to a company called ASARCO. They had a factory there that closed in 1997. Later, a company named HDR Inc. helped clean up the area. They even won an award for their great work!

Fun Features to Explore

This park has many cool things to see and do. There is a walking trail that follows the river. You can also find a bike trail that connects to other paths. One trail leads to Miller's Landing. Another goes to the Heartland of America Park.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Pedestrian Bridge is also here. It has interesting exhibits to teach you things. This bridge connects the park to CHI Health Center Omaha.

You can also see two important monuments in the park. One is the Omaha Firefighter's Memorial Monument. The other is a large monument honoring workers. It is the second biggest labor monument in the United States.

The walking trail also connects to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. This bridge goes over the river. It links Omaha with Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The park has lots of open space for festivals and events. There are also tables with umbrellas and chairs. These are perfect spots to relax and enjoy the river views. Other cool things include a "Monument to Labor" sculpture. You can also find Lewis and Clark exhibits. Kids love the jumping fountains where they can play. There is also a historical marker on site.

The new National Park Service office is right next to the park. This office is home to the leader of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.

Events and Concerts

Every summer, Lewis and Clark Landing and Heartland of America Park host free concerts. These "Playing with Fire" concerts started in 2004. They are a great way to enjoy music outdoors.
