Lex Luger's Music Journey
How Lex Luger Started in Music
When Lex Luger was growing up, he played drums for his church. This was his first experience with music. He learned about beats, measures, and how music is put together. Later, he started making music on a PlayStation game called MTV Music Generator 3. He also began using turntables.
Lex Luger saved up money to buy an Akai MPC 2500, which is a special machine for making beats. He then formed the VABP production crew with his friends from high school. He wanted to make high-quality hip hop beats. After getting another music machine, an MPC 2000, his friend Urboyblack gave him a copy of FL Studio. This is a computer program used to create music. He also uses other tools like Maschine and Pro Tools.
Lex Luger spent many hours practicing with FL Studio. He worked every day after school and all weekend. He even left King's Fork High School after 10th grade to focus completely on making music. He found he could make at least 10 beats a day! He started sharing his music on MySpace, a social media website. In 2008, he began sending his beats to different rappers. In 2009, a rapper named Waka Flocka Flame started emailing him back. They built a connection, and Lex Luger sent Waka new beats every few days.
Rising to Fame (2009–2013)
Waka Flocka Flame liked Lex Luger's music style. He asked for a powerful beat to rap over. Lex Luger sent Waka 40 beats, and three of them ended up on Waka's 2009 mixtape, 'Salute Me or Shoot Me 2'. Waka asked for more, and Lex Luger sent hundreds! Soon, Waka Flocka Flame invited him to Atlanta to work together. Lex Luger spent months in Atlanta, helping create many songs for Waka's first album.
Waka Flocka Flame's song "Hard in the Paint" was Lex Luger's first beat to be played on the radio. It became a big hit in May 2010. While in Atlanta, Lex Luger received a phone call from famous rapper and producer Kanye West. Lex Luger didn't realize who it was for two hours! After finding out, he flew to New York City to work with Kanye. He created eight beats for Kanye, including the one for the song H•A•M.
Lex Luger also connected with Rick Ross. This led him to produce songs like B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast) for Rick Ross's 2010 album Teflon Don. After working with Rick Ross, Lex Luger became even more popular. By June 2010, he was producing music for many other rappers like Ace Hood, Soulja Boy, and Fabolous.
As Lex Luger's unique sound became more popular, many rappers wanted to work with him. He produced tracks for albums like Rick Ross's Teflon Don, Waka Flocka Flame's Flockaveli, and Kanye West and Jay-Z's Watch the Throne. He also worked with artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Wale, Juicy J, and Snoop Dogg.
Lex Luger formed the production team 808 Mafia with fellow producer Southside in 2010. He later left the group in 2011. In the same year, Lex Luger won the Producer of the Year award at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards.

He has been very successful, selling thousands of tickets and selling out an entire European tour in May 2015. On June 27, 2015, Lex Luger was the main performer at Virginia's fifth annual EpicFest Hip Hop Festival.

Lex Luger's Music Style
Lex Luger uses a computer program called FL Studio to make his beats. He also uses other music production tools like Maschine and Pro Tools. He is known for a special electronic sound effect he uses at the beginning and throughout his songs. His stage name comes from the professional wrestler Lex Luger and also the Luger pistol.
He looks up to other producers like Dr. Dre, Shawty Redd, and Drumma Boy. He also gets inspiration from rapper Juicy J and his former group Three Six Mafia. Lex Luger says he puts his inner feelings and passion into making his beats.
Lex Luger is famous for his strong "trap" music sound, which comes from Atlanta. He uses a powerful drum sound called the Roland TR-808 kick drum. His music often has spooky synth sounds and strong, rhythmic orchestral sounds. He mixes these orchestral sounds, like synthesized brass and strings, with urban hip hop sounds. Over time, he has also started adding pop, R&B, and electronic dance music styles to his productions.
