Lho Shin-yong (Hangul: 노신영, born February 28, 1930 – died October 21, 2019) was an important leader in South Korea. He held many high-ranking jobs in the government. He was a diplomat, a foreign minister, and even the Prime Minister. He also led the country's main intelligence agency.

Early Life and Diplomatic Career

Lho Shin-yong was born in Kangso, Korea, in 1930. This area is now part of North Korea. He started his career as a diplomat. A diplomat is someone who represents their country in other nations. They work to build good relationships.

In 1968, he became the Consul General in Los Angeles. A Consul General helps citizens from their home country who are living abroad. Later, in 1972, he served as Consul General in New Delhi, India. He then became the Ambassador to India in 1973. An ambassador is the highest-ranking diplomat representing a country.

Leading South Korea's Foreign Affairs

Lho Shin-yong continued to rise in the diplomatic world. In 1976, he became the Vice Foreign Minister. He also served as a Permanent Representative in Geneva, Switzerland. This role involves representing South Korea at international organizations.

From September 2, 1980, to June 1, 1982, he served as the Foreign Minister of South Korea. The Foreign Minister is in charge of how a country deals with other countries. They help shape foreign policy and international relations.

Protecting National Security

After his time as Foreign Minister, Lho Shin-yong took on a new role. From June 2, 1982, to February 18, 1985, he was the Director of the Agency of National Security Planning (ANSP). This agency is now called the National Intelligence Service.

The ANSP's job was to protect South Korea's national security. This involved gathering information and preventing threats. It was a very important and sensitive position.

Becoming Prime Minister

On February 19, 1985, Lho Shin-yong was appointed as the acting Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is the head of the government in many countries. They lead the cabinet and manage the country's daily affairs.

He officially became the Prime Minister on May 16, 1985. He served in this high office until May 25, 1987. During his time as Prime Minister, he worked alongside President Chun Doo-hwan.

Lho Shin-yong passed away on October 21, 2019, in Seoul, South Korea. He is remembered for his long and dedicated service to his country.
