Libertador General San Martín is a town in Jujuy Province, Argentina. It is the capital of the Ledesma Department. You can find it along National Route Nº34. This town is an important center for both industry and nature in the region.

History of Libertador General San Martín
The town started as Pueblo Nuevo Ledesma on December 28, 1899. It was built on land given by the owners of the Ledesma sugar refinery. Just two years later, the town's layout was planned. This included eight blocks around the main square.
Growth and New Name
In 1906, the railroad reached the town. A train station was built between the town and the main industrial area. This helped the town's economy grow a lot. Many people from Lebanon and Syria moved here, which also helped the area develop.
In 1950, the town got its current name: Libertador General San Martín. It was named after the famous Libertador General José de San Martín, a hero of Argentina.
Economy and Industry
The biggest employer in Libertador General San Martín is a company called Ledesma S.A.A.I.. This company is very important for the town's economy.
What Ledesma S.A.A.I. Does
Ledesma S.A.A.I. has large sugarcane farms. They also grow fruit and have facilities to package and make fruit concentrates. The company runs mills that produce sugar, cellulose (used for paper), and paper. They even make alcohol fuel.

Libertador General San Martín is located next to the San Francisco River. It is also very close to the Calilegua National Park, only about 8 kilometers (5 miles) away. Because of its beautiful natural surroundings, tourism has started to become popular here.
