Early Life and Education
Licinio de la Fuente was born on August 7, 1923, in Noez. This is a small village in the province of Toledo, Spain. His family were farmers and held traditional views. During the Spanish Civil War, his family moved to an area controlled by Franco's forces.
He studied Law at the University of Madrid. After finishing his studies, he became a State lawyer. This meant he worked as a lawyer for the Spanish government.
Political Career
Licinio de la Fuente worked as a State Lawyer in different cities. He was in Ciudad Real from 1950 to 1954. Then he moved to Segovia from 1954 to 1956. After that, he became the Civil Governor of the province of Cáceres for four years. This was an important role in local government.
From 1960 to 1963, he was a National Delegate for a social welfare organization. He then returned to being a State Lawyer at the Supreme Court. This is the highest court in Spain.
Minister of Labour
In October 1969, Licinio de la Fuente was chosen to be the Minister of Labour. He held this important position for many years. He worked under different heads of government, including Carrero Blanco and Carlos Arias Navarro.
He resigned from his role as Minister of Labour in February 1975. This happened because the government did not agree to a new law he wanted. This law would have recognized the right to strike.
Role in Spain's Transition
After Franco's rule ended, Spain began a period called the Spanish Transition. During this time, Spain moved from a dictatorship to a democracy. Licinio de la Fuente played a part in this change.
He helped create a political group called Democracia Social. In 1976, he joined other politicians to form a larger group. This group was called the People's Alliance (AP). It aimed for political reform and social justice.
In June 1977, he ran for election to the Congress of Deputies. He was elected as a lawmaker for Toledo. However, he left the People's Alliance group a few weeks later in August 1977. This was due to disagreements with the party's leadership. After his term ended in 1979, he left politics. He then started working in the business world.
Later Life
After leaving politics, Licinio de la Fuente joined the boards of several companies. These included construction and banking firms. He passed away on February 26, 2015, in Madrid.
