How LRG Started and Grew
The Beginning of LRG
Lifted Research Group began in 1999. It was founded by two friends, Jonas Bevacqua and Robert Wright. Robert Wright knew a lot about the streetwear industry. This means he understood how to make popular clothes for young people. He had worked with big brands like Quiksilver and O'Neill. Robert also helped create LRG's first clothing samples.
Jonas Bevacqua helped get the money needed to start the company. He got help from friends of his adopted father. These friends worked in the fashion world. This money helped LRG make its first batch of products. These products sold out on the very first day! This happened at a big event called the Action Sports Retailer Expo in San Diego, California.
Early Success and New Ideas
LRG quickly became successful. In 2000, the company made its first $1 million. By 2002, LRG was making a profit. This means they were earning more money than they spent.
In 2005, LRG launched a new clothing line. It was called Luxirie. This line was made for women. The designs had six different themes. These included styles from the Western and military worlds. Luxirie even had special jeans with crystals on them! This new line started in the United States and Canada in 2006.
Expanding Worldwide and Cool Partnerships
LRG soon started selling its products in many other countries. They also created an international skate team. A famous rider named Marek Zaprazny became a star on this team.
In 2006, LRG teamed up with a phone company called T-Mobile. They designed a special edition Sidekick III phone. This phone was green and had LRG's logo all over it. T-Mobile made 10,000 of these phones. They sold out very quickly!
Sadly, Jonas Bevacqua passed away in 2011. He was 33 years old.
New Designs and Collaborations
LRG started to update its designs in 2017. They hired a new designer named Nick Bower. Nick and his team have helped the brand grow even more.
In 2018, LRG worked with many artists. These included Jon Z, Chip The Ripper, Rvssian, and Jhay Cortez. They created cool projects together. In 2019, LRG also partnered with Apple Music. This meant LRG became an official creator of music playlists on Apple Music.
