Early Life and Music Start
Julian Mason grew up in DeSoto, a town near Dallas, Texas. His love for music began when he listened to his parents' record collection. In tenth grade, a friend showed him a music production program called FL Studio. This sparked his interest in making beats.
Julian joined his high school band in DeSoto, where he played percussion. He was a great student, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class. Later, he went to the University of Houston to study architecture.
Music Career
Starting in the Music World (2013–2016)
In 2013, Julian decided to leave college and focus on his dream of making music. His earlier experiments with FL Studio paid off. The famous Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane used one of Julian's beats for his song "With My Pistol." This song was featured on Gucci Mane's 2013 mixtape, World War 3, Vol. 3: Gas.
Gucci Mane was interested in signing Julian as a producer. However, legal issues for the rapper stopped these plans. Julian then continued to work as a freelance music producer for the next five years. He created music for different artists behind the scenes.
Working with Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé (2017–2024)
In 2017, Julian joined 1501 Entertainment as their main producer. He started working with Megan Pete, a rising rapper from Houston who later became known as Megan Thee Stallion. Their first song together was "Tina Montana." This track became the first song on Megan's popular 2018 EP, Tina Snow.
Julian also helped create Megan's hit single "Big Ole Freak." As Megan's career grew, Julian signed a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing. He has written and produced many songs for Megan Thee Stallion's top projects. These include Fever (2019), Suga (2020), Good News (2020), Traumazine (2022), and Megan (2024). He even reached number one on the Billboard Rap Producers chart.
Later, Julian worked with another Houston superstar, Beyoncé. She used one of his production loops for the first 36 seconds of her song "Thique." This song is on her 2022 album, Renaissance. In 2024, Julian helped create and produce "Hiss" for Megan Thee Stallion. This song quickly reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Global 200 charts.
