A Musical Start
Mason was born in DeSoto, a suburb of Dallas, Texas. He grew up listening to his parents' record collection, which sparked his love for music. In tenth grade, a friend showed him a music-making software called FL Studio. He started creating his own beats and sounds.
In high school, Mason joined the school band and played percussion instruments. He was a great student and graduated in the top 10 percent of his class. He later went to the University of Houston to study architecture.
Career in Music
How It All Began
After a few years in college, Mason realized his true passion was music, not architecture. He decided to leave college and focus on becoming a music producer. His early experiments with FL Studio paid off. In 2013, the famous Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane used one of Mason's beats for the song "With My Pistol".
Gucci Mane wanted to sign Mason to his record label. However, the rapper had some problems that stopped them from working together. For the next five years, Mason continued to create music for different artists as a freelance producer.
Working with Megan Thee Stallion
In 2017, Mason's career took a big turn. He was hired by the record label 1501 Entertainment to be their main producer. There, he started working with a new rapper from Houston named Megan Pete, who is now known as Megan Thee Stallion.
The first song they made together was "Tina Montana." This song appeared on her 2018 EP Tina Snow, which helped launch her career. The EP also included the hit single "Big Ole Freak". As Megan Thee Stallion became more famous, Mason also gained recognition. He signed a deal with Sony Music Publishing.
Since then, Mason has produced many of Megan Thee Stallion's biggest hits. He worked on her popular albums, including Fever (2019), Good News (2020), and Megan (2024). His work helped him reach number one on the Billboard Rap Producers chart. ..... "Hiss" was a huge success, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2024.
Collaborating with Beyoncé
Mason also had the chance to work with another superstar from Houston, Beyoncé. She used one of his musical creations, called a production loop, for her song "Thique." The loop makes up the first 36 seconds of the song, which was released on her 2022 album Renaissance.
