Melvin Vernell III (born July 25, 1992 – died June 7, 2012), known by his stage name Lil Phat, was an American rapper. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Melvin started rapping when he was a teenager. In 2007, at just 14 years old, he signed with Trill Entertainment. He became well-known for his part in the song "Independent" by Webbie. Lil Phat also appeared as a guest artist on many songs released by Trill Entertainment. He passed away at the age of 19.
