Lil Skies finished high school in 2016. He went to college briefly but decided to leave to focus on his rap career. Some of his biggest music inspirations include Lil Wayne, Eminem, and Wiz Khalifa.
In 2016, he performed for Fetty Wap at a university. In January 2017, he released his first mixtape, Alone. Later that year, he released popular songs like "Red Roses" and "Off The Goop."
His music caught the attention of Atlantic Records. He signed with them and released his first major mixtape, Life of a Dark Rose, in January 2018. This mixtape quickly became popular, reaching number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. Songs like "Nowadays" and "Red Roses" also made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 list.
