Kimetrius Christopher Foose (born August 4, 1998), known as Lil Skies, is an American rapper and singer. He is from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. He became well-known after signing with Atlantic Records in 2017. His popular songs include "I", "Nowadays", and "Red Roses." These songs reached high spots on the Billboard music chart.

His mixtape, Life of a Dark Rose (2018), was a big success. It reached number ten on the Billboard 200 chart. This mixtape also earned a platinum award, meaning it sold over one million copies. His first studio album, Shelby (2019), reached number five on the chart. His next album, Unbothered (2021), also charted.

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Kimetrius Christopher Foose was born on August 4, 1998. His birthplace was Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He started making up rhymes and rapping at a very young age, around three years old.

His father, Michael Burton Jr., was a hip hop artist. His mother is Shelby Foose. Lil Skies' stage name is a tribute to his father's old stage name, Dark Skies. When he was in third grade, his family moved to Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.

Music Career Journey

Starting Out in Music

Lil Skies worked hard to pay for studio time and music videos. He took on various small jobs. He even worked at a McDonald's and a Japanese restaurant. During this time, he also worked on his first music project.

His first project, "Birth of Skies Vol. 1," was released on August 14. He also worked with his father on an album called Father-Son Talk. This album was about their shared experiences.

Early Releases and Success

Lil Skies finished high school in 2016. He briefly went to Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. However, he decided to leave college to focus on his music career. He was inspired by artists like Lil Wayne, Eminem, and Wiz Khalifa.

In October 2016, he performed before Fetty Wap at Shippensburg University. He then released his first mixtape, Alone, in January 2017. Later that year, he released popular songs like "Red Roses" and "Off The Goop."

Life of a Dark Rose and Touring

His songs caught the attention of Atlantic Records. He partnered with them through his own label, All We Got. His first major mixtape, Life of a Dark Rose, came out on January 10, 2018. This mixtape quickly became very popular.

It reached number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. The songs "Nowadays" and "Red Roses" were big hits. They both earned platinum awards. He also toured with Lil Uzi Vert in 2017. He started his own "Life of a Dark Rose" tour in 2018.

Shelby Album

On March 1, 2019, Lil Skies released his album Shelby. He named this album after his mother. At the same time, he released the music video for the main song, "I."

He even made a short film about the album for his YouTube channel. In the film, he interviewed his mother. He surprised her by telling her the album was named after her. In May 2019, he released a video for "Breathe," another song from the Shelby album.

Unbothered and New Songs

On March 4, 2020, Skies released "Havin My Way." This song featured his friend Lil Durk. It was the first song from his second studio album, Unbothered (2021). Other songs like "Riot" and "On Sight" followed.

After Unbothered was released, Skies continued to put out new music. He released "Play This At My Funeral" in March 2022. He also released "Rage!" in November 2022.

Becoming an Independent Artist

On February 21, 2023, Skies released "Make A Toast." This was his last song with Atlantic Records. He announced that he had left the label. Since then, he has released several songs as an independent artist. This means he manages his own music releases.

Skies was featured on Lyrical Lemonade's album All Is Yellow. He sang on the song "This My Life" with Lil Tecca and The Kid Laroi. This song was popular on several music charts.

Skies released "Thousands" on February 9, 2024. This was the first song from his mixtape Out Ur Body Music. The mixtape, which has eight songs, was released on March 29, 2024. It was his first full project since Unbothered.

Personal Life

Kimetrius Foose lives in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. In July 2019, he and his girlfriend, Jacey Fugate, had a son. They named him Kimetrius, too. Foose and Fugate became engaged in April 2025.

Lil Skies has said that his song "Red Roses" is his favorite. He feels that his musical connection with Landon Cube on that song is "epic." He also looks up to Lil Wayne as his biggest music inspiration.

He enjoys outdoor activities like fishing. He has mentioned that if he wasn't rapping, he would like to do "Bear Grylls type, outdoor stuff."
